Photographer Lucia Holm (also known as Miss Lulu & The Teaspoon Shortage on Flickr) is renowned for taking breathtaking self-portraits. With perfect platinum blond hair and deadpan look, she resembles a retro bombshell that never takes herself too seriously. Each photo stands on its own as a unique piece of art with subtle layers of vintage-inspired textures.
With degrees from both the Rhode Island School of Design and the New York Academy of Art, her skill with lighting, composition and retouching is immediately evident.
What more could you could you ask for? This girl has impeccable looks, major style and can shoot a captivating photo.
SO sick of hearing about this chick. She’s completely overrated and a Vorfas wannabe. Almost every picture she takes is just a boring shot of her against a wall that’s been photoshopped to death in a desperate attempt to make it interesting.
Are you kidding, jb, or just desperate to make yourself interesting. Obviously uninformed, undereducated, and jealous.
Her work is incredible and she is beautiful, but yeah kinda bored of how vain she is…
Maybe new models required.
meh im with the first poster on this one. personally, i found her work much more interesting before she got really heavily into photoshop. i think now she just relies on the pshop too much to make the photos visually interesting instead of the actual subjects and compositions. just my 2c though.
all talk is better then no talk! 🙂
lala—always been into the photoshop…quite the opposite of how you put it —i’ve been using it less then i ever have !
so what…a lot of ps but the creative edge is still there and it’s better than most. could mistake her for lady gaga though.
I have to say, she is a tad boring. However, she is about 3618973651345 time more original than that poser idiot LaraJade.
Firstly, to address the suppositious issue of vanity:
Anyone who has been in the practice of narrative/portrait photography would know that on many occasions you are the only person there. You simply do not have the option of shooting anyone else. Also, you have the added advantage of knowing exactly what you want and not having to communicate that to someone else – it can often be hard to direct someone in a photograph to hold the emotional space required to bring a photograph together, or to even direct them into the gesture needed.
And if Lucia wasn’t as beautiful as she was, would anyone be reducing her body of work to mere conceit? What are the grounds to vilify someone for self-portraiture?
Secondly, as for the use of photoshop:
Lucia has been painting and drawing since she was very young, and is an incredibly skilled and talented artist. It is a completely natural progression for her to make. Her photographs mirror her hand-wrought body of work more and more and I think that that is an exceptional feat.
And lastly, the critiques found here were wholly disappointing. To not like something is, of course, anyone’s prerogative. To not be able to intelligently argue your point in a critique forum, however, is useless.
Way to go LUCIA! Ignore those discouraging comments and Keep up your good work. Sometimes ppl have their own point of view and some are just plain jealous of you. Be yourself and do what you do best! I Love your works and they are amazing ( be it its edited or whatever) its all about what kind of concept and direction you persue, ps is perfectly fine. As its your way of expressing your feel in your art work.
Cheers!
*Pursue* hahaha
jb – I have to disagree with you. Lucia is an amazing artist. So what if she uses photoshop? In todays world, the ability to create what Lucia does with a computer program is not looked down apon. Also, if she is lacking the subject or props that she wants, but still manages to express what she imagined regardless, is in my opinion, true talent and artistic drive to get her vision out. She is a beautiful woman with many original photos.
P.S. If you’re sick of hearing about her, then ignore her. Insulting an artist is unnecessary and rude.
